This CPD will examine the background and core aspects of the EU Asylum and Migration Pact, as well as looking at issues arising in challenging first instance international protection decisions. The EU Asylum and Migration Pact will see an overhaul of migration, asylum, integration and border management across Member States. Additionally, an overview and discussion of issues and considerations to be taken into account when a first instance international protection decision is issued.
At the end of the presentation, participants will;
Understand the background, development and key elements of the EU Asylum and Migration Pact
Recognise potential issues in challenging first instance international protection decisions.

Andrew Munro is Head of the Civil Justice Legislation and Civil Justice Policy Functions at the Department of Justice, which deal with a wide range of policies and legislation concerning Family Law, Access to Justice, Courts, Judiciary, Legal Services, Coroners, Data Protection, Immigration, International Protection, Sale of Alcohol, Gambling, Personal Insolvency, Defamation and other matters. His previous post was Assistant Secretary to the Government in the Department of the Taoiseach.
Topic: Issues in Challenging First Instance International Protection Decisions
Tim O’Connor BL was called to the Bar in the Trinity Term of 1998. Tim is an elected member of the Bar Council and head of the Circuit Liaison Committee. He is a also a member of the Ombudsman Junior Counsel Panel in respect of Public and Administrative, Constitutional, and European law, member of the IHREC Specialist Human Rights Law Panel, and is a committee member of numerous Bar Associations including IACBA, the Sports Law Association and Tort & Insurance Law Specialist Bar Association. Tim practices and regularly appears before the Superior Courts in several areas including, administrative law, judicial review, tort & personal injury law, sports law and immigration & asylum law.
