1.5 CPD Point.

CPD Domain: Legal Knowledge, Procedure & Skills

Our final CPD for 2024 will look at a number of areas which will be of interest and of use to practitioners across international protection, immigration and citizenship law.

As we see increasingly diverse immigration and citizenship histories and statuses for individual members of the same family, can we confidently spot the significance or otherwise of one family member's immigration and citizenship history for another family member? The CPD will seek to assist in identifying occasions in which differences in advice may be occasioned by the point in time or the manner in which a relevant family member's status was acquired, and whether the person seeking to acquire citizenship was themselves born in Ireland, and the extent of their own residence in Ireland.

Practitioners will also be provided with an overview of the cessation and revocation of international protection, as well as a deep dive on recent Court of Appeal decisions in relation to ‘long stay’ visas

At the end of the event participants will:

  • Understand the key elements of citizenship for family members of Irish citizens.

  • Recognise key aspects of revocation and cessation of international protection.

  • Be up to date in relation to recent Court of Appeal decisions in relation to visas.
